Los Angeles is a big city, and there are so many different options available for engagements. Before making a decision on where you want to take photos, start thinking about the look and feel you're going for. Is it airy and beach-y, or is it modern and urban? This can designate a specific area of Los Angeles that you'd want to stick to, especially since LA is so large and difficult to traverse.
So here are a few of my favorite locations around Los Angeles to take engagement photos:
1. Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach Canals
For the beach flair, head out to Santa Monica Pier. The pier and the surrounding beach can get a little busy, so after you have some photos on and under the pier, I recommend heading to Venice Beach for the true ocean side shots. Then take a moment to visit the Venice Canals which are whimsical and romantic.
2. Hermosa Park
Hermosa Park is known for it's amazing skyline views of Los Angeles, and can provide the urban flavor some people look for. But if you still want the outdoorsy feel, you're right there in a park surrounded by lush greenery and fun little nooks.
3. Arts District DTLA
I love taking walks in the Arts District of LA. The urban murals on the brick walls provide that modern flavor for the city couple. Grab a coffee at a cafe, and then just wander around the streets for some awesome views.
4. Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden
This garden is teeming with hidden gems. Take photos in a field, in a jungle, or in the bamboo. It's like a trip around the world. Some of my favorite images have been here. What's great about this location is that it can also be rented for the wedding itself. Bear in mind that this location does require a permit and entrance fees.
5. El Matador State Beach Park
And my favorite one I've saved for last. I love this park. The serenity of the cliffs and overlooking the Pacific Ocean is just magical. This location can get crowded, so instead of the usual sunset session, I opt for the sunrise time frame. It really starts the day with the best calming medicine.
