Reasons to Have an Engagement Session

I always think it is so important to have an engagement photography session, and it's not just because I'm a photographer. My engagement photos are some of my most cherished photos of me and my husband. While it's great to have all the wedding photos, I don't want my house covered in them. It's nice to have a few in casual outfits that really show more of our personality.

So to help you decide if an engagement session is for you, I've come up with a list of reasons that you SHOULD do it!

1. Great Images

These photos are a family heirloom that will be used for save the dates, announcements, social media, and on your ancestry wall. If you do not have an ancestry wall, I highly recommend you start one. What's that, you might ask? An ancestry wall is a wall in your home filled with all of your family photographs. Having engagements photos of you is an heirloom piece you can pass down to your children's ancestry wall as well. I also know many family members who prefer printing out the engagement photos, rather than the wedding ones for their walls as well.

2. Stronger Relationships

A session for engagements helps foster a stronger relationship between me, the photographer, and you! When you're comfortable in front of the camera, it shows. And the pictures turn out better for everyone involved.

3. Understand Posing

During the engagement session, I get a chance to go over the posing principals without the stresses of the actual wedding day. You get a chance to practice, and decide which poses don't work for you. One of the main concerns I get from clients is on posing, because typically they aren't used to getting in front of a camera. This is my chance to take you through the flattering angles and positions.

4. Confirm your Vision

Having a session before your wedding helps me confirm if I am following in your vision for your big day. If there is anything that you love or dislike, I can address it right away and manage your expectations for the wedding.

5. Improving the Wedding Day

All of the above points really help create an amazing wedding day experience and enhances the fun/comfort of the big day given its usual time constraints.

I really want you to have amazing photos for your wall, and I truly believe that engagement sessions are so important to achieving that. Hopefully this will give you food for thought. If you know of anymore good reasons for engagement sessions, leave a comment below!
